The spirit of Lekwanmen is the largest totem pole in the world. It stands in Victoria, British Columbia and took nine months to carve. Your totem pole, a column of animals is made from Styrofoam® and small wood pieces and takes less than an hour to make!

you may need adult supervision to do the project. Always cover your work surface with a mat or some type of protective covering like wax paper or plastic. Always use care when using tools or a heat source. Be careful and safe! |

- Brown acrylic paint
- Elmer’s Craft Bond™ Tacky Glue
- Elmer’s Painters® Opaque Paint Markers
- Assorted STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam: balls and eggs – 2”, 2 ½”, and 3”
- Assorted small wood shapes
- Jumbo craft sticks
- Toothpicks
- Wood skewers
- Stencil brush
- Serrated plastic knife
- Craft snips
- Spoon

Create animal heads using Styrofoam balls, eggs, and small wooden shapes. Refer to the photo for placement of small wood shapes.

Use the serrated plastic knife to cut a flat surface for the eggs and balls.

Use a teaspoon to make depressions in the Styrofoam.

Use a toothpick to hold pieces together when gluing. Dip toothpick in glue, then into the Styrofoam.

Place Styrofoam eggs and balls on skewer to hold while painting.

Use the stencil brush to apply paint to the Styrofoam pieces.

Use the paint markers to color the wood shapes.

Use Tacky Glue to secure the wood shapes to the Styrofoam.

Color all pieces, assemble each animal, then assemble into the totem.
