Instructions:
1. Fold an 11”
x 7” piece of blue paper in half to make a card measuring
5-1/2” x 7”. Use the pattern to cut the pop-up
base from blue paper. Fold in half with short ends together
to mark the center then fold the tabs upward. Place the strip
straight across the center of the inside of the card aligning
the center fold with the center of the card about 1-1/2”
from the top. Glue the tabs to the card aligning toward the
top. Fold the card while the glue is still wet to align the
tabs and secure the folds.
2. Using the patterns trace, then cut 7 small orange balloons,
6 small yellow balloons, 5 small red balloons and one large
yellow balloon. Trace the cupcake pattern onto a 3”
x 5” piece of crimped, tan paper then cut out.
3. Place one 5” length of wire on the back of a small
balloon shape. Glue a second balloon shape same color) on
top, sandwiching the wire between. Repeat to make 5 wired
balloons – 2 yellow, 2 orange, and one red. Write one
letter of the word “Happy” on each of the wired
balloons. Write the letters to spell the word “Birthday”
on the remaining eight. Draw a face on the large yellow balloon.
4. Bend the ends of the wire into a “U” shape
then glue the balloons to the back of the cupcake shape. Secure
by placing a scrap of tan paper to the top. Crumple a piece
of white tissue paper and glue on the front of the cupcake
at the top. Let dry.
5. Glue the “Birthday” balloons across the inside
of the card and the large balloon to the front of the card.
Add swirls to each balloon for strings. Glue the cupcake across
the center of the pop up base. Fold the card then adjust the
wires so the balloons don’t show when the card is closed.
