Hamburger
by Julie McGuffee

Hamburger
You will need:
  • Styrofoam ball
  • Construction paper - green
  • Craft foam - yellow
  • Acrylic paint - dark brown, brown & light tan
  • Crimper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Rubber band
  • Plastic knife
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Sandwich picks

Instructions:

Hamburger - Fig. 1
Hamburger - Fig. 2
Hamburger - Fig. 3

  1. Cut the Styrofoam ball in half. Note: Place a rubber band around the center of the ball. Mark along the rubber band. Remove the rubber band then cut along the line.
  2. Cut a slice about 1" thick from the flat side of one of the cut Styrofoam halves for a disc.
  3. Roll the edges of each Styrofoam piece on a hard surface to flatten. Flatten the rounded areas. Rub the pieces together to sand. The disc will be the meat patty and the rounded halves will be the bun.
  4. Using the sponge, paint the halves for the bun brown. Dampen the sponge slightly to make the surface easier to paint. It isn't necessary to paint the flat sides. Without cleaning, dip the sponge into light tan then sponge over the rounded surface of the larger half. This will be the top of the bun.
  5. Sponge top sides of the disc thoroughly with a dark brown paint.
  6. Cut a square of yellow foam large enough to cover the disc. Tear light green paper into irregular pieces for lettuce.
  7. Place the disc on top of the bottom half of the "bun". Place the yellow foam square on top for cheese. Add "lettuce" and the top of the bun to finish. Hold together with a sandwich pick, or glue.
